My interest sparked early on when I was in middle school. I student in one of my classes had a seizure during class. While this was very scary to me at such a young age, I will never forget the frustration and helplessness I felt. I wanted to learn more about why that emergency happened, and what I could have done to help. As soon as I turned 18, I joined my local fire department and later joined my college EMS agency. I've never looked back. I love being an EMT, running calls, and learning about emergency medicine. There's such a unique connection that one shares with their patient, and I love the personable side of being an EMT. Of course, not every call is easy and feels rewarding, but I can't imagine my life without the last 3 years of helping others.

My father spent 25 years on a career department so it was something I grew up around. When I turned 18, I got in an EMT class and joined a nearby volunteer department. At the age of 20, I was hired to the same career department that my father retired from.

I joined my local volunteer fire department when I was 16 because it was something I wanted to do to help people and because it sounded exciting. Once I got in, I quickly learned that most of the calls were medical, so I took an EMT class after firefighter one so I could respond to all of the incidents. Once I got into the ride time of my EMT class I just loved it so much I decided to switch my college major to biology in order to pursue a career in medicine.

My father was in this line of work my entire life. From being the assistant chief of a volunteer fire department all the way to becoming a paid lieutenant firefighter paramedic. He would share stories of his day and talk about the people he got to help and even the lives he saved. I have always wanted to help people that is just how I am. We would always hangout and visit my dad at the fire department while he was on shift and watching everyone jump into action the that bell rang have me an adrenaline rush. That's when I knew I wanted to go out into the community and make a positive difference- I love helping people and will continue to do so until I physically can not continue any longer!
