I feel CPR in schools is a huge plus! The sooner CPR is initiated correctly the better the chance for patient survival. No matter where the call may be chances are high it is going to take a couple minutes for fire and EMS to arrive and get to the location of that patient. Those couple minutes could be the difference in life of death. It also fills the community with more people who can make a difference out at the store or in a public place when CPR is needed immediately. I don't see a negative to this!

This seems like a very sound idea. However, this idea would only be effective if the class is taught in a serious setting. Often health education in school can be seen as a joke, so students should understand just how important CPR can be. Students should also be aware of the scope of their training. They should know when they would/should use their training. The CPR training should also be combined with a bit of AED training as well, as we have learned that the AED is crucial to successful CPR. I think its a great idea for schools to teach cpr skills the more students that learn it the better sense time is so important for survival and it gives you great satisfaction knowing you used your training to help another person

as a training center coordinator for the AHA and an instructor for BLS, ACLS, PALS.. I am all for it. Studies have been done and it has been proven that a 6th grader can effectively learn this and use an AED as fast as an emt can. I say awesome and I am all for it.

I think it is a great idea! The more people who are trained in CPR, then the faster treatment can be initiated. Especially if they are in a rural place (i.e. camping, hiking, canoeing) EMS personnel will take a longer time to respond, so if more people are educated and can begin treatment, then the patient has a better chance of survival even before the EMTs have arrived on scene.
