Are a lot of BLS providers carrying Narcan (volunteer fire departments). We have chose not to. Just wondering what everyone else is doing.

I am very interested in this issue with Narcan as well. Since anyone is able to administer it once they have been trained, what will happen in the future with abuse of Narcotics? With more synthetic drugs coming out all the time, are community trained individuals who administer Naran going to be putting themselves in a dangerous position when they are giving Narcan to reverse what really ends up being a Meth.or Bath Salts overdose?

My home agency we also opted not to allow basic to administer the drug. yes it can be a fairly benign drug, however there is still some side effects that can occur. the main reason is just pure safety. you have the potential to put yourself in harms way as with any call.

I think anyone that administers any type of medication should be fully trained in its administration and possible adverse effects from giving that medication

they are teaching nasal naloxone to lay people! Every agency should have this. The police are using it! No reason an emergency response agency should not have it. Heroin use and overdoses are up exponentially ! It is in every neighborhood, town, etc. it crosses all age groups and financial classes... unfortunately we are being tasked with protecting people from themselves!
