how does everyone encourage a pt to go to the appropriate facility for their illness/injury when the pt is adamant about going to abc hospital that does not provide the services they need

all you can do is provide them with the knowledge that you have. if they are exhibiting MI symptoms, the best chance for survival is a cath lab, if its stroke symptoms, a place where tpa can be provided, trauma where the services are available etc. Make sure you know all of these things so that you can explain it best. even then some will refuse but as long as you gave a truly informed explanation, you have done your best.

All you can do is inform your patient to the best of your ability, the decision is ultimately theirs.

All we can do is give people our informed opinions of where they would receive the most appropriate care for their condition. There will always be a segment of people that just wont listen and want to go to this hospital or that hospital " because thats where i go". All we can do is present our case as frankly as possible and hope the pt sees we have their best interest in mind.
