Can anyone share their thoughts on how they keep positively motivated on a daily basis in their EMS careers? Everyone always talks about all the stress, and bad hours, and the pay scale. Obviously there must be some other factors at work to keep us all going.

For me, if I'm having a horrendous day (bad calls, high stress outside of EMS) the thing that keeps me going are the people I work with. I couldn't be prouder of the other EMTs I work with and seeing them around campus always makes me smile and realize why I do what I do. As cheesy as it is, having such a great team, who I know are on my side keeps me going, even when I am beyond the point of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion.

As Sarah said, the team that I work with. For me, it is the knowledge that I am helping those in my community. I have had many community members write thank you notes after their emergency to thank those that responded. It is always nice to hear that they appreciate us.
